Acinato AG now uses the power from its existing 135 kWp solar plant on the Botanica site in Sins on site instead of feeding it into the grid. Ampere Dynamic delivered a 125 kW / 261 kWh LFP battery storage system turnkey, from sizing based on the load profile through the grid connection application and the noise and fire protection assessments to commissioning in September 2026. Since day one the storage has optimised self-consumption, and it is also registered for ancillary services.

Plenty of solar power, little grid capacity

The solar plant produces around 98 MWh a year. In 2025 only just under half of it was used directly; more than 50 MWh went into the grid at low feed-in tariffs, while the site drew power from the grid in the evening and at night.

A storage system alone did not solve this. Four hurdles had to be cleared:

  • Grid connection: according to the connection assessment by AEW Energie AG, the solar plant and storage feeding in at the same time would have overloaded the transformer and supply line. A maximum of 220 kW feed-in was approved, together with a power limit on the solar plant and a reinforced service fuse.
  • Noise protection: offices and flats are around 33 m from the installation site.
  • Fire protection: the VKF fire protection regulations 2015 contain no specific rule for LFP storage.
  • Space: the storage had to fit into the existing courtyard between car parking and a green area.

One cabinet, one EMS and three assessments

An all-in-one SAJ CM2-125K-261 storage system combines inverter, battery management, liquid cooling and an aerosol extinguishing system in one outdoor cabinet with a footprint of around 1.3 m².

At 125 kW it almost covers the site’s measured peak load of around 140 kW. It is connected on the AC side through a new sub-distribution board. The Eniris SmartGridOne energy management system receives real-time values from the grid connection point, controls storage and solar plant together and keeps to the approved feed-in limit automatically.

The noise assessment to Cercle Bruit showed 43.6 dB(A) by day and 48.6 dB(A) at night, well below the industrial zone limits of 65 and 55 dB(A); the municipality of Sins confirmed the installation without a building permit. Ampere Dynamic agreed fire protection early with the Aargau building insurer (Aargauische Gebäudeversicherung): outdoor installation under VKF FAQ 2005-01, with fire stopping at the building penetrations. After the first site visit in March 2026, the storage was delivered on 18 May 2026 and commissioned in September 2026.

More self-consumption, ready for the balancing energy pool

Solar power that used to flow into the grid at low tariffs now covers demand in the evening and at night. This lowers grid purchases and energy costs.

Through the EMS, the system is connected to the platform of the flexibility service provider Ampere Dynamic works with. With the registration for ancillary services, Ampere Dynamic can bundle it as an aggregator in its balancing energy pool and so open up additional revenue in future, without any marketing effort for Acinato AG. Remote monitoring and service run through the Ampere Dynamic service desk.

How commercial storage is sized in Switzerland is explained in our commercial battery storage guide; how a storage system earns revenue from balancing energy in the article Balancing energy with battery storage. The full offer is on the battery storage solution page.
